Do YouTube tags still matter?
Much less than the title, thumbnail and description, but they help with common misspellings and alternative names for your topic. A handful of accurate tags is enough; repeating the title word by word adds nothing.
Hashtags are different: they go in the title or description. Try the hashtag generator.
