What to put in a YouTube description
- A first sentence that sells the video. It shows in search and under the video before "more", so say what the viewer gets, with the words they search for.
- Chapters. Timestamps on their own lines, starting at 0:00, at least three. YouTube turns them into chapters on the progress bar.
- A few hashtags. The first three can appear above the title. More than 60 and YouTube ignores them all.
- Credits and links below. Music and footage credits, sources and your other channels go after the summary.
See the YouTube video optimization checklist for titles, thumbnails and end screens too. InkSlop adds chapters and credits to the description automatically when it publishes your video. Try the video creator.
